The early months of the year can be really tough when fishing in the Bristol Channel. This is where keeping session logs can be worth their weight in gold.
Some venues tend to fish better than others, which means you have to limit your expectations and sometimes think outside the box.
Witches point is a fantastic, clean ground venue to fish for Small Eye Rays in the spring and summer but winter time the Ogmore area seems to fish better than most.
When fishing Witches, if you use the right rigs and bait you can catch some fresh bait in the form of Pouting. I am a big fan of using fresh bait to try and land fish on a session and pouting is a great bait to land Conger Eels. Congers are a species of fish that you can catch very close in to the rocks and give a great fight on the way in.
